Yo! It's been a while, it's already February and I know it's really late but it's 2015 now and this would be my first digital art practice for the year. For this year I've made a list of what I hope to accomplish with my artwork and myself.

1. Finish at-least a few chapters of the Rivals Novel Illustrations during the weekends.

2. Do more freehand human studies.

3. Do more freehand landscapes and cityscapes studies.

4. Go on a diet and do some exercises even just during the weekends.

5. Try to create a short motion graphic animation using AE and cinema 4D.

6. Improve knowledge in 3D modeling and rendering, create more studies.

7. Gain more knowledge in web designing and programming. [Javascript, PHP, CSS, HTML]

8. Improve drawing technique, practice, practice, practice!!

9. Draw more black characters, #Blacklivesmatter #NoH8

10. Learn a new medium in drawing and painting.

11. Create own story for conceptualization of original web comic series.

12. Try to be more outgoing and friendly. 

13. Learn to look at the brighter side of things. Reduce pessimistic thoughts.

14. Save money for motorbike, PC Upgrades and new wireless drawing tablet.

15. Learn to manage stress better and focus on goals.

Cityscape

Sort of suckish...

Just working on my perspective drawing so far this is the most detailed view of a city I could do, it's not that good but since I'm still working on catching the details with my mind's eyes I suppose it's okay.

So while I was trying to figure out how to improve my knowledge in drawing backgrounds and such, I have decided to look for a book that would help me out, I know what you are thinking, why waste money? why not just look for some tutorials on the internet? and at first I did. I have even look at videos to know how the artists do this, but I have noticed that sure this might work for some and I would be lying if I say I did not learn a thing or two from those online tutorials and demonstrations because honestly I did. I have just decided to look for a book such as this book shown at the left image because I like to have a solid reference, an item that I could take anywhere and just flip open when I'm bored or just relaxing, I don't need an electronic device and the internet just to look for what I need, plus I love reading books, it's definitely less stressing on the eye than looking on LED monitors for hours I could honestly prove that. Anyway moving on, first before I continue let me just state here that I am not an official critic on this book and the review I'm about to write is based on my personal opinion so bare with me here. This book on the left entitled "the Landscape Artist's Drawing Bible" edited by Hazel Harrison seems to be a great help to new, amateur and professional artists alike. I bought this book at a local bookstore around my city area but it could also be bought at amazon or other book shopping sites, it cost P450 so that's about $10 or higher if it's online or bought in another country. I like how it's spiral-bound rather than hardbound making it a lot easier to open and flip over and it's glossy, I don't know why I like glossy paper but I just do. The book covers a lot of mediums in drawing landscapes from pencil, charcoal, watercolor to paint so it would really be a great tool for any artist whatever medium one uses. The tutorials are easy to understand and well written, it even provides sample images of the process making it a lot easier to follow and comprehend.

Here is a sample image of what it looks inside the book, on this page we have one of the medium of which the book tackles, the Dry Pastel, here we could see the different ways on how to use a pastel and the basic shading techniques one could do with the medium.

Tutorial with step by step process

On the left image again we could see the process on how the artist creates the drawing using the reference image found on the book as well. With this step by step process even an amateur artist will be able to grasp the the idea on how to do it making the depiction of the reference more accurate and less time consuming.




With this in mind I would say that I recommend this book without any doubts. it is a great book and it's size isn't so bad so one could bring it anywhere without much trouble. I still look for tutorials on the internet though because as I have said it is cheaper, but now with this book and a bunch of other books that I have, I'm using the internet less and less, plus the internet isn't really the best place to look for references since the sources would most definitely be either unknown or just inaccurate. Instead of learning a more less time consuming way an artist might just become entangled with the tutorials on the web linking from one page to another with the uncertainty that the sources are valid and comes from a reliable source, but remember this is just my opinion if one is more happy searching and learning from the web then keep going at it, because at the end of the day it will still be up to the artist if they are willing to learn beyond what they already know and keep on growing and improving...

7 Eleven

While waiting for my interview at Clark Free-port Zone, I've decided to sketch out the place where I spend my time. This was a good time to practice sketching from my surroundings to have a better grasp of drawing backgrounds and such...

Buildings and Structures

Been doing studies on structures, so far I've learned the intricacy of the design of each piece adds elegance to it as a whole, I have yet been able to capture the true essence of each architectural structures but I am getting there.

Just another human study I was working on previously. On the first image [Fig. 1],  is a series of different angles of a single subject, I still can't quite get the low angle right that's why I always keep on taking extra focus when I'm doing it.

The next image, Fig. 2, I'm working on rendering different styles of hair, previously I only drew straight hair but nowadays I like rendering hair close to my own hair texture, curly or kinky, I guess it just feels more like placing my own personality on my drawings this way and also it gives more life to the drawing, don't you think?

The last two drawings are more of a conceptualized idea while I'm still practicing drawing hands and muscles. Still have a lot to learn and study but it always helps to keep track of it once in a while.

Background Practice

Building

 So Been practicing drawing buildings, trees and backgrounds in general, I think I like this idea because drawing backgrounds was never my strong points, in fact up to now I'm still struggling but in my resent works I could say I'm getting somewhere, it's not much but it's something.

Sapangbato

 This drawing with the road covered with thick leaves and trees reminds me of the place I always pass by every-time I'm going to school before and now every-time I go to work, I really like going through this route because unlike the main road, it isn't trashed with loads of cars emitting tons of dangerous smoke plus I really like looking at the lush green leaves, I hope that this paradise would never go away especially since we're in the new age and humans just love destroying great scenes like this.

Sometimes I just feel a little secluded, especially now, I'm not really sure who I am, what I like, it's all too confusing but I hope someday I'll find out who I really am...

Anatomy study

 The Human body has fascinated me before but it was only when I was in my 2nd year of college did I finally realize that I wanted to study it further and from that I've started to draw the human anatomy, at first it was really difficult because I'm used to drawing anime and cartoons so realism wasn't really my strong point in fact it was my weakest....

Hands!!

due to increasing my fascination I've decided to study one of the weakest and my most difficult to learn, drawing hands, to most artist the human hands is the one if not the most difficult to do mostly because it is used in so many ways also like the human face it shows emotion and expressions making it the more crucial to do properly if one wants their art to be understood by their viewers.

From drawing hands I've moved on to drawing the human skeletal system to have an even differ understanding of the human anatomy, I've burrowed my older brothers medical books, he is a licensed nurse if you should know, and from that I've checked and tried to memorize all of the names of the bones found in the human body and frankly this have proven to be one of the most grueling thing I did, it's like I'm in high-school again trying to memorize the entire table of elements all over again, I hated that with a passion mostly because of the added equation and shit ack!!. lol

 So I'm still here a few years later still learning and using the knowledge I have acquired from my self studies and using it to render some wicked and sort of weird artwork, because of my increase knowledge of the anatomy, I felt like I could express my ideas more and my difficulty in drawing the human body has greatly decrease.






So to end this I could say that trying to study the human anatomy is not only a fun thing but as an artist it's a really great asset especially if you want to be a serious and professional artist.

Backgrounds I

In the past few days I've decided to work more on drawing background, sceneries and stuff, need to improve my skills in this area, so far what I can do isn't all that great but I am happy with it. It's a great stress reliever who knew? well better get back to work!
